Orthodox New Testament Research Program
Instructions for Running on Windows Vista
Install the ONT Program software on your computer. At the end of the install process, you will probably get an error message like this. It may not pop up on your screen properly. On our machine, it showed up on the Task Bar, but did not otherwise visibly display the dialog box.
It does, however, effectively stop the installation program.
Thus, if your install process seems to hang, look on your Task Bar for a button for this window. Click on the button to show this window.

Press the OK button, and finish the install program.
---
Click on your desktop wallpaper, and then Press F1, - or - Press the “Start” button, and press the “Help and Support” button in the bottom right corner, as shown here.

Either of these methods should get you a window that looks similar to this:

In the edit box that says “Search Help”, type “Program Compatibility Wizard”, and press [Enter].

You should get results similar to this. Please keep in mind, your results could be different than those below. Look for help on how to Start the Program Compatibility Wizard. On our machine, it came up as the first item.

Click on the item that gives help on how to Start the Program Compatibility Wizard. That should give you a window like this:

Click on the item that says “Click to open the Program Compatibility Wizard”. It should open a window similar to this. Press the Next button.

Click on the Radio Button that says “I want to choose from a list of programs”, and Press the Next button.

Select the “ONT Research Program”, and Press the Next button.

Click on the Radio Button that says “Microsoft Windows XP (Service Pack 2)”, and Press the Next button.

You should not need to select any of the items on the next page. Simply Press the Next button to proceed on.

This next step is very important. It opens up with the checkbox unchecked, as below.

You MUST check the box that says “Run this program as an administrator”, and then Press the Next button in order for the ONT Program to run on Windows Vista.
Please note: You will need to have Administrator Privileges to run the ONT Program on Windows Vista. This is also a requirement for running it on Windows XP.

This is simply a summary page. Press the Next button.

At this point, your computer should attempt to run the ONT Program.
You may get a message box from the “User Account Control” asking if you are sure you would like to run this program. Press the button that says you trust the program.
We’re sorry, but our computer will not let us make a picture of this dialog box. It should have wording similar to this:
| User Account Control |
|
An unidentified program wants access to your computer. Don’t run the program unless you know where it’s from or you’ve used it before. |
|
DsONT.exe Unidentified Publisher |
|
Cancel I don’t know where this program is from or what it’s for. |
|
Allow I trust this program. I know where it’s from or I’ve used it before. |
|
Details User Account Control helps stop unauthorized changes to your computer. |
You should get an error message saying that the ONT Program is “Unable to locate the Splash Page bitmap.” Press OK. It should then continue to load the program, although the Splash Page will not display properly.
Please note that after you finish the Program Compatibility Wizard, the Splash Page should work properly.

You should get an “ONT – Registration – Step 1 of 4” window.

If you get the ONT Program’s Registration window, that indicates that the program should function properly.
You can either go through the registration process now, or wait and finish the Program Compatiblity Wizard now. Either way, you will need to go to the Program Compatiblity Wizard window and finish the process.
Go to the Program Compatiblity Wizard window, and click on the Radio Button that says “Yes, set this program to always use these compatibility settings”, and then Press the Next button.

The Program Compatiblity Wizard will then ask you if you would like to send these settings to Microsoft. It is entirely up to you whether you would like to take the time to do that or not.

We selected “No”, and then Pressed the Next button.

You MUST press the Finish button for the Program Compatabilty Wizard to save the settings and to complete the process. If you do this, the ONT Program should start and operate properly each time you use it.
If you do not finish the process, you’ll have to go through the process again if you want to use the ONT Program on Windows Vista.

Please note: If you have multiple users on your machine, you will need to install the ONT Program and go through these steps for each user.
